SecurID (Token) Transition

Wednesday, March 11, 2009 12:00 p.m. EST

  • Purpose:

    • In order to consolidate the NASA Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) RSA SecurID Authentication Key Tokens (AKTs) with those issued by the Goddard Information Technology and Communications Directorate (ITCD), Code 700, the NCCS will be transitioning its RSA SecurID operations to the ITCD. After the downtime scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the RSA SecurID server that authenticates your NCCS AKT will be changed from the NCCS server to the ITCD server. This change will clear your Personal Identification Number (PIN) (i.e. the four digit number that you use in conjunction with the six-digit number displayed on your NCCS AKT. After the downtime has been completed you will need to set a PIN for use with the ITCD server:
  • Please follow the instruction.

    • At the PASSCODE prompt do NOT enter your PIN with the six-digit number displayed on your NCCS AKT. For example:
      • WRONG: PASSCODE: < PIN > < AKT six-digit number >
      • RIGHT: PASSCODE: < AKT six-digit number >

    • Enter a new PIN. (N.B. The new PIN can be a four-to-eight character alphanumeric value. You may set this value to your old NCCS PIN or choose a new PIN altogether.) For example:
      • Enter a new PIN having from 4 to 8 digits: < PIN >
      • (This new PIN will be used for all subsequent logins.)

    • You may be prompted to re-enter your new PIN. For example:
      • Please re-enter new PIN: < PIN >

    • The server will respond:
      • PIN Accepted.
      • Wait for the token code to change,
      • then enter the new passcode: < PIN > < AKT six-digit number >

    • It is important that you perform this action as described above, otherwise, you may inadvertedly lock your AKT. If you are sure that the problem resides with the AKT, then contact Code 700 Support Desk.

    • If you would prefer to contact the NCCS first, then feel free to do so. We may need to direct you to the Code 700 Support Desk to reset the AKT.

    • For those users who posess both an NCCS AKT and an ITCD AKT (e.g. a GSFC Virtual Private Network (VPN) AKT), you will be able to use both AKTs interchangeably. You are encouraged to return one of your AKTs to the Code 700 Support Desk located in Bldg. 12 Room E-132. If you are not certain if you currently possess an ITCD AKT, please contact the NCCS USG by e-mail at support@nccs.nasa.gov. (Please include the serial number from the back of the AKT in question in the e-mail message.)
