NCCS User Services Group (USG)

The primary concerns of the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) User Services Group are the NCCS user community, their ability to access NCCS computing resources, the accounting of their use of these resources, and the integration of policies and procedures to address these concerns in an organized and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

The NCCS User Services Group is the part of the NCCS responsible for all areas concerning userids and Computational Projects, including:
  • Assigning NCCS Computational Projects, and userids, and maintaining the NCCS User Services Group resource files necessary to efficiently co-ordinate them.
  • Processing requests from NASA Headquarters Allocation Managers to provide resource allocations for, or to modify the resource allocations in Computational Projects.
  • Processing requests from NCCS PIs to add, to modify, to disable, and to delete userids and Computational Projects in the NCCS User database, and on the NCCS computing resources.
  • Processing requests from users to modify their userids in the NCCS User database, and on the NCCS computing resources.
  • Providing assistance to users in resolving problems with logging on and with passwords, and in re-enabling users' userids which have been disabled by the NCCS computing resources' security protocols for non-use over a specific period.
  • Maintaining and updating the NCCS User Services Group request forms, and Web-pages.
  • Providing assistance to PIs, and to users with questions, problems, comments, and suggestions concerning the NCCS User Services Group request forms, and Web-pages.
  • Processing, producing, and distributing special reports as requested by NASA Headquarters Allocation Managers, by PIs, by users, and by internal NCCS requestors concerning the various aspects of the NCCS User Services Group.
  • Assuring a smooth and efficient fiscal year initiation by disseminating fiscal year information to and co-ordinating the submission of information from NASA Headquarters Allocation Managers and PIs, concerning the procedures and deadlines, and the information required of them for the initiation of the fiscal year.
  • Processing the information submitted for the fiscal year initiation in order to modify the NCCS User database, and to assist the NCCS Systems Administrators to modify the NCCS computing resources during the transition from one fiscal year to the next.
  • Completing annual post-fiscal-year-initiation audits of the NCCS User Services Group resource files, of the NCCS User database, and of the NCCS computing resources.
  • Implementing U.S. Government, NASA, and GSFC policies and procedures, and developing and implementing NCCS User Services Group policies and procedures in order to maintain the integrity of the NCCS User database, and the security of the NCCS computing resources.
