Observational missions are central in NASA’s quest to understand the Sun, Earth, solar system, and universe. By partnering with the NCCS, mission engineering teams can access high-performance computing resources to design and test the operation of new instruments and spacecraft while being freed from day-to-day computing operations.

NCCS science engineering partners include two NASA flagship space telescopes:

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

JWST will be the premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers worldwide as they study every phase in the history of our universe. Launch of this infrared telescope is targeted for May 2020.

Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST)

WFIRST is a NASA observatory designed to explore essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics. WFIRST is on track for a mid-2020s launch.
