// Storage and File System on ADAPT
All file systems on ADAPT, including home and nobackup, are shared and accessible across all VM’s.
File System | Type | Linux Filesystem | Windows File System | Default Quota | Backup Cycles |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Home Directory | IBM GPFS | /home | H:\home | 5GB | Daily |
Scratch | IBM GPFS | /explore/nobackup/people | H:\nobackup\people | 5.5TB | No Backups |
HOME
Home directories will be available on all your virtual machines and have built in redundancy. These directories should be used for critical data that needs more protection, such as user applications, scripts, etc.
NOBACKUP (SCRATCH)
Scratch directories will be available on all your virtual machines. While the disk environments used to make up these directories have built in redundancies to withstand up to two disk failures, these directories are not backed up. Therefore, this space should be used for large outputs from applications and scripts.
Monitor your Scratch Storage
Users are encouraged to use the "showquota" command on ADAPT to understand their storage usage. The showquota command on ADAPT displays the amount of storage you own at a specified time(timestamp displayed in the output), with the soft and hard limit of your account. The current showquota utility allows you to monitor only your Scratch file system storage, and not your Home file system. The total usage is accounted by file/data ownership and is NOT dependant on where the data is stored in the scratch file system. To run showquota, use:
$ showquota
If you would like to increase your storage space/limits, or if you have any other issues please contact NCCS User Support.
